mini wet n wild haul

Yesterday I had $3 in Extra Care Bucks that I needed to use up at CVS and when I stopped by they had a buy $10 in Wet n Wild products, get $5 Extra Care Bucks back. I tend to pass by the WnW rack and I don't really know why, and as they're the only cruelty free brand my local CVS sells, I thought I'd look. I ended up picking up my first Matte Liquid Catsuit in Goth Topic, a nice dark red and a Gel Lip Balm in Tease. I've never tried a gel balm before. The little shadow quad in Hooked on Vinyl has a lovely dark gem tone teal that I'm excited to try out. I especially love that Wet n Wild has started labelling their vegan products so they're way easier to find.

This whole haul ended up being about 97¢ after I used my $3 up front and got back $8 in rewards to use on my next purchase. Don't sleep on CVS, beauty addicts!

book haul // i actually bought new books

This is a pretty groundbreaking post in the book talk category - all of these books were bought brand new. Very rarely do I ever buy new books, but in my defense, I didn't pay retail for any of these. I've been reading like crazy this year so my interest in books has been renewed.

I picked up If the Allies had Fallen on a whim while browsing Barnes & Noble. They usually have a great selection of WWII books in their bargain section. That same trip I picked up Matt Bellassai's Everything is Awful, which I'd been pining over since I started listening to his podcast. I scored it for half off since it had just left the new release table.

Leah Remini's Troublemaker was an order from Books-a-Million with a gift card from Christmas. I've always been morbidly interested in Scientology and I've wanted to get my hands on this for a long time since I'm a big fan of Remini. How Not to Kill Your Houseplants was an Amazon purchase since the reviews were good and I've recently really gotten into houseplants.

Lastly, K picked me up Gizelle's Bucket List by Lauren Fern Watt from the airport one night when I was on my way to get him. (What's better than a man that buys you books?? Nothing.) It's almost guaranteed to make me cry, but it looks really good!

And there we go! I'm super excited to get started on all of these. If you haven't already, add me as a friend on Goodreads! I love seeing what other folks are reading.

pacifica // rollerball fragrance trio

My mom is an amazing deal finder and an amazing stocking stuffer. I opened this trio of Pacifica rollerball fragrances* and was ecstatic! The Indian Coconut Nectar scent is one of my favorites. Tahitian Gardenia and Sugared Amber Dreams are both going to be perfect for the office.

I especially love Pacifica because their entire line is cruelty free and vegan, so there's no label reading to be had! Pacifica is also sold at a wide variety of stores including Target, so it's easily found and has a great price point.

Definitely check them out!

mini Sephora haul

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

This is a super small Sephora haul because I'm still trying to use up the massive amount of beauty products I have, but I couldn't pass up the birthday gift and a points redemption! I chose the Tarte set, which includes the Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint* in Birthday Suit and the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush* in Paaarty. I'm not a huge blush fan, but my face does look better with it so I thought I'd start somewhere.

Since I'd racked up some points, I redeemed some for the drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1* dry shampoo. I don't wash my hair every day and it normally handles that well, but I've wanted to start using a dry shampoo for a little boost, so I snagged this one.

This will probably be the last of the beauty supplies I buy for a while, but at least it was a fun, frugal haul. ♥

influenster voxbox unboxing: marc jacobs beauty highliner

Recently I received the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner VoxBox! Influenster sent me the box to try out some new products.

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

I received two Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayons* in the colors Pink of Me and (Earth)Quake. These eyeliners retail for $25, so I was really glad to get them! They're super pigmented and go on so smoothly.

Pink of Me is on the left, which is a light pink, and (Earth)Quake is on the right, which is a deep brown and the color I would buy.  I don't know how much wear I'll get out of the light pink, but I'll use the deep brown every day. They state they last twelve hours and it took some scrubbing to get the swatches off, so I'll be putting them to the test here soon!

Toadily Candles & Soaps haul

While out visiting my mother for our Christmas, we stopped in downtown Morristown and I picked up a few things at Toadily Candles & Soap, an adorable little shop with a penny tiled entryway and a giant toad in store!

All of their candles were half off, so I snagged a Toadily Cantaloupe jarred candle. It smells amazing!

I couldn't decide on a full-size bath bomb, so I picked up a couple small samples to try, in Basil, Sage, and Mint and Just Peachy, along with an aromatherapy shower tab in Wake Up and Start the Day.

While at the register I spied their Pure Vegan lip balm and since I'm a total sucker for lip balm, I brought home one of those, too!

If you're in the area or just love bath products, Toadily is cruelty free and lots of products are vegan. Check them out!

Pacifica cruelty free & vegan stocking stuffers

My mom is brilliant at paying attentions to things I talk, blog, and text about and in turn saving those little tidbits throughout the year. She picked up these two stocking stuffers for me from Pacifica and they're perfect!

I haven't yet tried the body butters Pacifica offers, but the Indian Coconut Nectar is my favorite scent they offer. Of course I can always use makeup wipes, and being cruelty free and vegan don't hurt! I've tried their Super Detox wipes and they worked well, so I'm looking forward to these.

mini haul from tn

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

While out in Tennessee, we may have done a lot of shopping, but most of it was for gift giving. However, I did pick up some clothes I'd had on my "to find" list and a few odds and ends.

Did you know if you sign up for the Eddie Bauer Adventure Rewards they send you a $10 certificate every so often that you can use on anything? We stopped by the outlets and everything in the store was half off, so I scored two Stasher Totes for only $2 and some change. I love little collapsible bags I can put in my purse, so I'm glad we stopped there.

We stopped by Ulta and while I had a few gifts in mind, I picked up Tree Hut's Passion Fruit and Guava Shea Sugar Scrub. I'm a sucker for anything passion fruit and I've really gotten into scrubs lately. My e.l.f. powder is panned so I thought I'd try the Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder for a change. I've already cracked it open and I like it so far.

The In Vitamin Activated Charcoal Tooth Powder is something I've wanted to try but didn't want to order, so I snatched it up at a hefty discount at TJ Maxx. I'm going to give it a shot.

I'm excited to try all of these!

cruelty free & vegan marshall's haul

Marshall's is a treasure trove of cruelty free and vegan products; you just have to look! Check out my latest finds.

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

Hempz Power Shot Herbal Body Moisturizer in Sparkling Citrus Berry // I've wanted to try Hempz for a long time but didn't want to pay the price for it, so when I found these I decided to get one. It claims to strengthen and hydrate, while being enriched with 100% pure hemp seed oil and essential vitamins.

Kiss My Face Moisture Shave Cream in Green Tea & Bamboo // I still have quite the stockpile of aerosol shave gels, but I scored this for only $1.99, so it's worth a shot! It's loaded with oils and extracts. I've never tried a shave cream, so I'm interested to see how it works.

Jason Powersmile Toothpaste in Powerful Peppermint // I picked up a tube of Colgate in a pinch (like I ran out before bed and that was the only thing available pinch) and it's been terrible and I've missed my more natural toothpaste. I've been wanting to try Jason's version because their oral care doesn't have all of the nasty ingredients that typically come in toothpastes.

I'm pretty happy to add these to my arsenal and try them out. ♥

cruelty free discount store beauty haul

I've done more beauty shopping in the last two weeks than I have in months! In my quest for Christmas gifts, I've made some great (cheap) discoveries at discount stores. Quite honestly, I need more beauty products like I need a hole in the head, but sometimes it's nice to treat yoself.

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

Woo! I got each of those e.l.f. brushes for a dollar a piece, which is what they normally sell for, but I didn't have to make a trip to Target for them. I haven't seen the nail polish remover wipes before, but those have been a nifty little thing I've liked recently from other brands. The pack of Epielle wipes was only $1 for a 60 count and I'll probably use those to clean swatches and for eye makeup.

I have a lot of bars of soap from my couponing days and a couple CF bars that I found recently for a good deal, so I grabbed this soap pouch to help use them up.

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

It's been a painstakingly long process in growing out my nails after being a lifelong nail biter. It's working, though, and I've been loving perusing all the nail products. I snagged this collection for only $5.99 and I can't wait to start using them!

lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

I've yet to find any e.l.f. polishes anywhere but occasionally in a gift set at Target, so when I saw this at Burlington for $3.99, it came home with me. A few of the polishes are duplicates of what I already have, so I'm going to gift them as stocking stuffers.

under $20 cruelty free haul

In my weekly necessities shopping trip, I snagged a few cruelty free items from Target and Family Dollar. I'm a sucker for cheap beauty products!

lucky bandit blog

I can't seem to stop myself from picking up e.l.f. items at Target. I snagged the Lip Kiss Balm in Bare Kiss, which is something I'd been thinking about since I've wanted a bit of color but not quite a gloss or lipstick. Then I saw the Lip Color Remover and thought about all those times I'd scrubbed my lips raw after wearing a dark lipstick. The last piece of the e.l.f. puzzle was the Mineral Infused Mascara in black, which is to supplement a absolutely terrible mascara I'm trying to get through now.

The rest came from Family Dollar, which I frequent because of it's convenient location. The little tweezers and nail block are to replace some aging pieces I have, and I grabbed the White Rain Volumizing Mousse because my locks are painfully limp on a regular basis. Sigh.

The L.A. Colors? I truly believe that their nail polishes are hidden gems in the beauty world. They're only $1, available in a huge variety of shades, and their ability to last a while and not chip is impressive. Since I'm growing out my nails, I picked up the Calcium Treatment for only $2, along with a dark red polish called Globe Trotter for the holidays. I also grabbed a twofer of Eye Makeup Remover and Nail Polish Remover pads.

How cute are these little bat earrings? They're not a beauty product, but I love bats and these were on clearance at Target for $.69, so I grabbed them. Love!

shiro cosmetics haul: harry potter!

Guys!!!!!! Harry Potter themed makeup that's vegan and cruelty free. How could I not??

On the day I read this Allure article (more like as soon as I finished it), I went straight over and bought some items from Shiro Cosmetic's Marauders, Mugwumps, and Muggles line.

I ordered the The Boy Who Lived eyeshadow, a charcoal with flecks of gold and red undertones, in full size which features label art, the Butterbeer gloss, and a couple samples, He Who Must Not Be Named and Too Big to Be Allowed. I also received two free samples (!!), Too Old, Too Poor, Too Dangerous, and Metamorphmagus.

I can't wait to incorporate these into my daily beauty routine. Shiro has loads of colors to try out for everyone's fandom. You can even buy one of each eyeshadow. Sample bags are only a dollar, and you can sample pretty much everything.

Definitely go check them out!

ulta birthday haul!

ulta haul beauty lucky bandit blog katelyn carter

For my birthday I received all kinds of glorious things (including a pair of Ray-Bans!) and an Ulta giftcard. Well, while out in Tennessee my mom wanted to go by Ulta, so I picked up some things I'd been wanting for a while.

Pacifica Cactus Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic // I've been wanting to try a micellar cleanser for forever and though the Garnier version is super popular on the beauty blogs, it's not cruelty free. However, Pacifica's is both cruelty free AND vegan! I kept looking at this every time I'd go in Ulta but never made the leap - until now!

The Body Shop Blemish Fade Night Lotion // This was, admittedly, an impluse buy. I have trouble with dark spots from blemishes on my face, I've heard good things about The Body Shop's Tea Tree line, so I'm hoping this works as promised.

Nip + Fab Viper Venom Micro Blur Fix // I've already opened this and used it and I love it so far. I can see a difference already in oil control and it's tacky enough to use as a primer to keep foundation in place.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Whiskey // My current eyeliner is on it's last leg so I decided to splurge a bit and grab this pencil from Urban Decay. I was swatching all over the place trying to find a dark brown color that I liked and I settled on Whiskey.

Real Techniques Brushes - Lash/Brow Groomer and Expert Face Brush // The lash brush purchase stemmed from my horrid application of mascara that morning and resulting in appearing to only have five extra large eyelashes on my right eye. It was great. Since the Real Technique brushes were buy one, get one 50% off, I picked up the Expert Face Brush since I've been looking to try out different kinds to apply foundation. I've tried it and so far it is fabulous.

What's the last thing you got at Ulta? ♥

iHerb mini haul

iherb mini haul vegan lucky bandit blog

I recently discovered iHerb and I was amazed at the massive selection! There's tons of natural, organic, cruelty free, and/or vegan items! I didn't start shopping with anything specific in mind, so I didn't order a ton of stuff. However, I did order some things I'd never heard of or had been on my list of "things to get eventually".

Source Naturals Vegan True Melatonin // I've had trouble sleeping for what seems like forever. I'm tired of taking sleep aids (which are basically Benadryl), so I'm going to give melatonin a try.

Merry Hempsters Vegan Spearmint Lip Balm // Since I announced that I've been having trouble finding vegan lip balm (I swear there isn't any in any stores near me), I've kind of gone on a lip balm buying rampage. So far, though, I really like this! It's minty but not overly so, and it soaks in well and stays put.

TheraNeem Naturals Lotion // I need more lotion like I need a hole in the head, but at $1.20 for the bottle, I couldn't help but give it a try.

If you've never tried iHerb, if you use the code TNZ430 at checkout, you'll get $5 off and I'll get $5! It's a win-win.

my first lush haul

my first lush haul lucky bandit blog

Last week I had a girls' day out with Jess and went to Lush for the first time ever! I'd been eyeing a few things on the website and picked them up while I was there. Not gonna lie - I was pretty overwhelmed by the selection and could've picked up so many things. It's so nice to walk into an entire cruelty free store with so many vegan options! Here's what I brought home:

Tea Tree Water // I've seen several reviews of this on blogs and I'm hoping this will help with my oily skin!

Superbalm Scalp Treament // This was on my beauty wishlist and I can't wait to try this out.

Sex Bomb Bath Bomb // I'm not a big bath person, I prefer to shower, but I figured I should pick up a bath bomb on my first visit, and Jess said this one was really good.

I'm definitely adding to my Lush "want" list, so hopefully these work out and I can add more to my stash!

shopping vegan & cruelty free beauty at Ross & Marshall's

Finding vegan and cruelty free products in an area that hasn't exactly grown with the trends or times can be tough. Finding budget friendly products can be even tougher. I recently took a stroll through Ross while looking for birthday gift ideas. The beauty section caught my eye and I needed moisturizer, so I decided to give it a look. Boy, was I glad I did! After finding a few vegan and cruelty free items, I decided to walk next door to Marshall's and see what they offered. I wasn't disappointed! Around my area, these items aren't readily available at the local store. Most of the time you have to take a hike and pay a fortune to get certain things. Check out what I found for a steal!

shopping vegan and cruelty free beauty at ross and marshall's katelyn carter

At Ross I found the Yes to Tomatoes Acne Gel Cleanser, and before I go any further, this stuff is MAGIC. The last two months my face has decided to go back in time to puberty and it's been a blotchy, pimply mess. In just THREE DAYS of using this cleanser, the inflammation has been greatly reduced and I haven't had any more blemishes crop up. So glad I picked this one up. I paid $5.99, but at my local Target it's a few dollars higher than that. You can find some here for a little cheaper than I paid, but I didn't want to wait for shipping!

The California Mango and Jojoba Extreme Creme is so thick and creamy! My skin feels fab after applying. I paid $3.99 and saved about $5. Another plus: it states on the bottle that it has a vegan formula! You can snag some on Amazon here.

Juice Organics is a brand I haven't heard of since it's not common in my area, but I'm glad I found their Pompeptide Facial Moisturizer. I saved almost 50% on this one paying $6.99. The formula is thick but not weighted and it doesn't make my face greasy or shiny. Win! Grab some here.

At Marshall's there were a lot more products, so reading ingredients took a fair amount of time and I gravitated towards brands I wasn't familiar with so I could try some new things. I first found the Andalou Naturals Deep Conditioner, and since my hair is super fine and majorly frizzy, I thought anything would help. And compared to $9.95, paying $5.99 was a steal. I've used it once and I could definitely tell a difference in my hair already. It's so soft and smooth! Definitely give it a try.

I've been trying out natural deodorants and I found Mill Creek's Cool Lavender stick. Since I can't smell, I can't really gauge how well it works, but I don't stay sweaty and I haven't been told I smell, so I supposed that's good. Haha, deodorant reviews are obviously not my strong point. I paid $3.99, which is cheaper than Amazon if you include shipping. If you'd like to try it, find it here!

Lastly, I picked up some Alba Botanica Even Advanced Moisturizer. Lord knows I need some evening out. I paid $8 off the clearance rack, and didn't remember I'd already bought the Juice Organics moisturizer until I got home. Oops. I like the formula, it's light and airy and soaks in well. I'd recommend this for those with blotchy complexions.

Here are my tips for finding what you need or for finding new products to try:
  • Have a general knowledge of vegan and/or cruelty free brands - or have access to Google.
I have a very general knowledge of these things. I'm not as familiar with beauty product ingredients as I am with food ingredients, so it was tough. I stick with the same brands over and over, but after not seeing results I decided I needed to try new things. I was that person Googling in the aisle. No shame.
  • Don't be afraid to branch out.
Bottle says vegan but you're not sure about the product? If the price is right, give it a try! You may find a new favorite.
  • Accept that stores like this can be hit or miss.
The odds that I'll find those exact products again are slim, but I have the knowledge that I didn't pay the full retail price for products I may or may not like. I can try them at a discounted price, and if they work, I won't feel bad about spending full retail on them. However, always check the shelves for things you know and love!
If you have any awesome finds or some tips you'd like to share, leave them in the comments!
