thrifty thursday #28

  • I've had a lot of no spend days here lately where I didn't even leave the house. Score!
  • Mercari and Poshmark have really picked up for me. I'm pretty happy to see items moving on out. I've been using recycled shipping boxes and reusing polymailers that I've received in the mail to send out items.
  • I cashed out another $5 to my PayPal via Microsoft Rewards.
  • While filling in a few spots in K's Easter basket, I picked him up some candy and used $3 in Extra Care Bucks from CVS and saved 50% off of my total purchase.
  • I made $5.50 via ibotta* at Walmart when I picked up oil for my car and some plastic pans for under my new plant babies.
  • I'm about halfway to a cash out via InboxDollars*, which isn't bad considering I spend approximately 7 seconds a day opening PaidEmails.
  • My friend, N, and I haven't hung out much lately but I did put a bag of clothing together for her and got a lot of things I wasn't wearing out of the house.
  • Printed and passed on some contact solution coupons to K for when he needs more.
  • In addition to my office job and umpiring, I picked up a third job as a server. I only had to buy a specific shirt as I already have the pants and slip-resistant shoes needed.
  • At Wawa one night I went in to grab K a drink and found $20 on the floor.
  • I only buy one ream of paper at a time because I use so little, but I found half a ream of neon pink (???) paper in my closet so I'll be printing coupons and shipping labels on that until it's gone.
  • I had $3 ECBs from CVS to use up before they expired. Wet n Wild makeup was spend $10, get $5 ECBs back. I picked up three WnW items for $11.97, used my $3 coupon, and got back the $5 reward and another $3 ECBs. In the same transaction, there was a toothpaste deal going on. Originally $3.69, use a $2.50 off coupon from CVS, then a 50¢ printed coupon, making the tube only 69¢!

Frugal Fails
  • Tuesday evening I started coming down with something, so I left work early Wednesday and lost a few hours of pay, and Thursday I ended up needing to stay home, though it was a no spend day.
  • We ate out a lot before K left for the season, so that was definitely a fail. Oops.

thrifty thursday #27

  • After dropping K off at the airport (tear), I came home and worked on listings and started my free online concussion safety course for the upcoming little league season.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday were no spend days and I made a sale on Mercari each day.
  • I contacted a company that I ordered a cold brew cup from after I broke the matching straw that came with it. I inquired into how to purchase a replacement, and they offered to send me one for free! I got it in the mail a few days later. Great customer service!
  • Made a few more quarters on "any item" rebates via ibotta*, along with $0.43 at Poshmark, $1.75 at Food Lion, and there's a couple pending orders for Amazon. I made a dollar via Saving Star for the same Food Lion trip.
  • I was an actress in a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre last week and I had a ton of fun and my meal was free since I volunteered. The food was absolutely amazing. I wasn't the murderer.
  • I had to renew my driver's license before my birthday in April but since I was eligible to renew it online, I saved a dollar.
  • I combined errands (meaning I waited a few weeks to have enough to justify driving north) and snagged lunch at the Indian buffet, picked up everything I need for an upcoming wedding, some tax paperwork, a comic book I'd ordered, got my nails done, and returned some library books before going straight to softball practice.
Frugal Fails
  • I forgot about the second toll on the way to a scrimmage so I had to pick up an IOU at the booth. A simple 70 cent toll turned into $2.25.

thrifty thursday #26

  • I picked up essentials at Walmart twice, Walgreens, Target, and Wawa and got back a quarter rebate at each visit for the "any item" rebate via ibotta*.
  • I picked up some groceries and, with a $2 bonus, earned $5.75 via ibotta and a dollar via Saving Star at Food Lion. Dollar General had two 'any item' rebate offers, which I redeemed, and I then had enough to cash out. They instantly deposited $20 into my PayPal account.
  • We went to see Black Panther, which was so, so, so, so good, and I used a free movie ticket I had so our total was only $12 and some change for two tickets. A week or so later K used a free ticket, too, and we saw Death Wish for even less.
  • One night after games, K and I stopped at Red Robin and I got back 10% via ibotta.
  • I've had about thirteen sales on Mercari and Poshmark in the last couple weeks. I'm loving getting these things out of the house and pocketing a little cash.
  • I combined errands before an association meeting and lined up a Verizon store near the meeting place to pay my phone bill, then bought K and I both a drink from Starbucks with some gift cards I'd been hoarding.
  • Since I wasn't using it, I cancelled my Hulu account and I'll save the $5.99 per month.
  • Combined errands again the next week and stopped and renewed my tags before heading off to a college baseball game.
Frugal Fails:
  • We've been eating out quite a bit lately, but I have discovered that we have a Cava near us now!
  • I've made many trips to a neighboring city for umpire training. Not exactly a fail because they're totally necessary, but I've still used a lot of gas.

thrifty thursday #25

  • While out at my mom's for Christmas, Friday and Saturday were both no spend days. Thursday I spent less than five dollars and Sunday my stepdad changed my headlight and was generous enough to fill up my gas tank before the trip back. ♥
  • My mom packed me up with loads of homemade leftovers (including chili, yum!) and I've been eating on those for lunch.
  • I've needed a haircut for a while now as my ends had gotten uneven, so my mom cut my hair while I was there. It looks great and you can't beat free.
  • I've gained enough points via Branded Surveys* (formerly Mintvine) for a payout.
  • Last month my stupid second line came off my phone plan finally so that should save me $20 a month, and I cancelled my phone's insurance to save $11 a month.
  • I've made twelve sales via eBay and two via Mercari and that's helped declutter a bit.
  • I noticed a $5 rebate on ibotta* a couple weeks ago for eBay Fashion so I mosied on over and purchased a $3.88 (including shipping) button up for the office, thus earning myself $5.02, resulting in a moneymaker of $1.14 and adding to my office wardrobe. Win!
  • In the same week on ibotta, I earned $2.14 on a Walmart.com purchase (plate shoes and a lighting kit, not junk!) and a $5 bonus.
  • I redeemed a $5 PayPal reward via Microsoft Rewards.
  • On my two days working outside of the house, I bring my lunch.
Frugal Fails
  • I had to run across the county three nights in a row for board meetings and forums and twice I stopped and grabbed cheap fast food. I spent less than $10 total, but like moms everywhere say, we have food at home.
  • I paid my car insurance late and suffered a ten dollar late fee, but I did pay it early for the next month.
  • My one big splurge is acrylic nails and I broke one at softball practice Saturday morning, so I spent $3 plus tip to have it fixed.

thrifty thursday #24

  • This first one is pretty exciting; I received an email from Shop Your Way that said I had $25 worth of FREECASH points, which is basically free credits that you can use toward purchases. These were for Sears.com only, but since Sears actually has some decent business clothing, I went on to find a pair of much needed black straight leg slacks and black flats. I added them to my cart and came back to them this week and my FREECASH was now at $27! I went to check out and chose store pickup for the shoes and the free shipping option for the pants. My total for this whole transaction? $3.14.
  • I'm down to the last tomato from when I stocked up on three 3lbs bags for $0.79 each from Aldi. I'm hoping they have another sale like that soon!
  • As a Christmas gift, my dad bought me a nice pair of Nike Metcon Repper* trainers that I can use for umpire training and some indoor softball practices as a coach I have coming up soon. The Metcon 3's weren't in a color scheme I liked and almost twice the price, so I went with the older style. Not only were they $25 cheaper on the Dick's Sporting Goods website, I earned Scorecard points and chose in-store pick up, so shipping was free.
  • I'm still working on my minimum cashouts for InboxDollars*, Mintvine (which is now Branded Surveys*), the Panel App*, and Microsoft Rewards. It's slow but easy work if you integrate the few seconds per day per app into your routine.
  • Saturday was a no spend day other than gas to get to work. Wednesday I was home sick so that was a no spend day, too. Thursday I only spent money on one thing; a headlight for my car.
  • Friday I discovered that I owned not a single pair of black ankle socks. Since I waited more than five minutes for my pickup at Sears, they gave me a $5 coupon. I scored another pair of work slacks and six pairs of black ankle socks for only $11.05.
  • My phone bill has had a second line tacked to it for almost two years now (major sideye) but the contract has finally ran out and I managed to disconnect the line via the chat in the Verizon app. I didn't have to call anyone and it only took about ten minutes.
  • The next Thursday I had come down with bronchitis and had a fever, so I had to call out again, ugh, but at least it was a no spend day. I've had a life of coughing so you'd think I'd be used to it, but it really sucks.
  • An affiliate link website I use sent me $4 for participating in a Twitter contest. I didn't know they were even offering it so that was nice to wake up to one morning.
  • I sold an item on Mercari, two on Poshmark, and two on eBay. My lighting kit has come in, so I'm hoping to up my amount of listings tenfold soon.

Frugal Fails
  • We've been ordering a lot of takeout at work, sadly, but I have been getting two day's lunches out of them.
  • I joined a gym to get in shape for baseball season so I added $23 to my monthly bills.
  • Buying things in general isn't frugal, but I've been trying to cheaply get caught up on the things I've needed for a while now.

thrifty thursday #23

  •  After a fantastic Friendsgiving, we were sent home with leftovers so I've been eating them for lunches and admittedly, midnight snacks. Yum!
  • A local farmer came by the office and had homemade Brunswick stew with him for sale so I picked up a quart for $8. Since I'm the only one who eats it, I got several lunches out of it!
  • Last Christmas I bought holiday cards and I somehow managed to not send any out so this year I'm going to take that unopened pack of cards, save a few dollars, and tuck little apologies in there, too, when I mail them out.
  • I've been racking up points via Achievemint, an app that pays you when you make healthy choices*.
  • Black Friday shopping? Pfft. I was curled up in bed with the puppers. I didn't spend a dime.
  • Mercari has been fairly fruitful for me in the past two months and I just sold another item. Yay, decluttering!
  • I made a broccoli casserole, sweet potato casserole, and pasta salad for Thanksgiving and the only ingredients I had to buy were broccoli, yams, and a bag of cheese. The rest of the ingredients I sourced from the pantry. I'm glad I took a count of things before the holiday.
  • Our bosses graciously bought us lunch on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday and I have a ton of leftovers from that, so I'm set on lunches for the rest of the week. ♥
  • Poshmark has really been picking up for me. I listed a pair of shoes one night and they sold the next morning!
  • I brought a bunch of tiny post-its from home to use at the office. I'll never use them up at home so I might as well actually use them at work.
  • Still using up little bits and bobs from the pantry and fridge. I used the last of some soaked kava root, a quarter of a bag of cheese, some tiny amounts of spices left in containers.
Frugal Fails
  • I was informed at the last minute that I had a second dinner to go to on Thanksgiving, so when I went to pick up granny smith apples for a pie I had to pay a fortune for organic since they were the only ones left. Sigh. However, the pie was a huge hit. :)

thrifty thursday #22

  • I earned $14.50 via ibotta* for a recent grocery shopping trip. I made $12.50 in offers and completed a bonus for an extra $2.
  • The next day, I went to Food Lion and picked up a couple more items which not only scored me a dollar in rebates via ibotta, but I ended up meeting another bonus for an additional $3, which put me over the $20 cashout limit and I cashed out $22.25 instantly!
  • When the fall softball season ended, one of my players gave me the absolute sweetest handwritten thank you card. Not gonna lie, I totally cried when I read it. Along with that, she gave me a $10 Starbucks giftcard, which I used one morning (with my own mug for a few cents savings) for a nice treat. Thanks, Ski! ♥
  • I sold another item on Mercari (get $10 off when you use my code VQYZSJ)* and it's one that's been sitting for a while so I'm happy to see it off to its new home.
  • I stopped by Wegman's and picked up a couple sales items and redeemed a quarter rebate via ibotta.
  • When I bought oil for my car a couple weeks ago, I got $10 back via ibotta and the package had an offer from Mobil for a $10 Walmart giftcard if you submitted your receipt to them, so I jumped on that, too.
  • I returned some items we ended up not needing for Halloween and put $7.30 back into my pocket.
  • Another three items sold on Poshmark and I'm pretty happy to have them off to new owners. I used recycled boxes and packing supplies. Yay!
  • I'd finally earned enough points to cash out a $15 Amazon giftcard via ReceiptHog, which I'll use for Christmas gifts.
Frugal Fails
  • I decided to keep Hulu* after my free 30 day trial was up, but luckily I got a special promotion for a year that made my subscription only $5.99 per month. No, I don't care that I still have to watch commercials. Yes, I am obsessed with Desperate Housewives.
  • One day at my job in town, I ordered takeout and then left it sitting on my desk so I didn't even get leftovers. Sad face. *However, my boss noticed it and put it in the fridge! Score! Thanks!!

thrifty thursday #21

  • I earned enough points to cash out $10 with Mintvine*.
  • One night I made chickpea mock tuna salad (omg, so good) and I saved the liquid from the can of chickpeas. Aquafaba is a great alternative to eggs in recipes! I might use it to make my own mayo since I'm out of Just Mayo.
  • We went grocery shopping earlier in the week and I managed to save us three dollars and some change with Cartwheel, a couple dollars using some peelies on a couple products, along with buying store brand items and saving even more.
  • At Food Lion I picked up some melatonin and toilet paper and made $1.75 via ibotta*.
  • I earned 100 some points for my two purchases via Fetch Rewards, and then this morning we stopped at Best Buy and I earned 50 Shopkick points* for walking in the door.
  • We stopped by a local restaurant one Monday night for $2 black bean burgers, half of which I brought for lunch the next day.
  • I'm still eating from the pantry a lot, so I've been using up some spices, tomato paste, and random half eaten boxes of pasta and such. (I go from angel hair to penne back to angel hair.)
  • Sold another item on Poshmark. I made little to nothing on it as I really just wanted it out of the house, but I boosted my feedback rating and got another item out of here.
  • Before work Friday, I stopped by the recycling bins and the post office since they were on my way out to town and it helped me to stay home all day the day before and save some gas.
  • I turned down takeout at work in favor of the lunch I packed: spinach (that I saved a $1 on at Target!) with balsamic, pickled baby corn, and couscous.
  • I signed up for Kobo* books and received not only a $5 credit, but 250 Swagbucks*!
  • Matt and I stayed in Saturday and watched Game 7 (thanks, Yankees...) and I convinced him to make some food at home instead of going to Taco Bell.
  • I made a batch of quinoa earlier in the week so I've been using up oddball condiments with it. Some pasta sauce the other day, taco sauce and Tofutti sour cream today. Tomorrow I might use up some black beans and cocktail sauce. Is that weird? That's a bit weird.
How did you do this week?

thrifty thursday #20

  • Our boss gave N and I a bag of fresh garden tomatoes from their family. They're delicious and I'm so glad they thought of us!
  • The local Shell has started taking Shell Rewards* cards, so it's a bit easier to get cheaper gas while home. I save 5 cents per gallon because I have Gold Status.
  • Noodles & Company emailed me a bit ago has now started a nifty little program for rewards (try my code KatelynCar669)* and I signed up. We went yesterday and I earned enough points for a free side, salad, soup, or mac!
  • I ordered a couple things from e.l.f. when they offered free shipping one day. I saved $4.95 on shipping and have their Moisturizing Foundation Stick and their All Over Cover Stick on their way to me to try! If you haven't joined their Beauty Squad yet, head on over and join* with this $5 coupon!
  • Another item sold on Mercari as well as another on Poshmark.
  • While out in Tennessee, I scored some Shopkick* points, 606 Fetch points, and made $0.50 via ibotta*.
  • Via the Panel App*, I cashed out my points for a $5 Amazon giftcard.
  • On the trip home from TN, we filled up our Nalgene and Sip by Swell* bottles with water and two ceramic coffee mugs with fresh coffee. Not a penny was spent on road drinks! In fact, the only money spent to come home was $1.75 on a vending machine bag of chips to keep me awake and alert.
  • I had gotten out of the habit of refilling my Nalgene* bottle, but I've recently started carrying it again and while I did stop at Wawa for dinner after coaching a softball game, I saved the plastic and money of not buying a bottle of water since I knew I had some in the car. I even carry it onto the ball field when I coach and umpire instead of getting a bottle of water at the concession stand.
  • We had a bunch of leftovers from dinner at my mom's, so N and I brought a bunch of them to work today. We both got fried squash mix, I got the salad, and she got the Tofurky chick'n. Win!
  • N asked if I wanted any Chinese food today for delivery and since I still had squash, I said no. Win!
Frugal Fails
  • I returned some library books late and that resulted in some fees. Still cheaper than buying the books and the fees help the library.
How have you done lately?

thrifty thursday #19

  • I completed a silly survey on my Dollar General receipt and got a coupon for $3 off my next $15 purchase. When I used that coupon on essentials, I got another survey offer.
  • I sold two items on Mercari, one on Poshmark, and an item to a friend - I'm really downsizing and it's nice to make a bit of cash at the same time. I'm going to use recycled shipping supplies to send out the packages.
  • Grocery shopping hasn't happened much around here, so I've been eating from the pantry like a madwoman. I just really want a fresh salad.
  • My mom gave N and me two tickets for a local movie theatre, so we used them to go see mother! and even though the movie was weird, we didn't pay a dime!

  • I was perusing Cartwheel and noticed there was a 50% offer for the complete series of The King of Queens*, which is my favorite show ever, so I checked it out in store. The series used to be $150, but has since gone down to $49.99, so I snapped it up for a cool $24 and change. It's on sale online right now for only $37.99!
  • I earned a quarter back from ibotta* and submitted receipts to ReceiptHog.
  • The omnivore of the house never eats leftovers but puts them in the fridge. I loathe food waste, so I eat these leftovers even though they may have dairy in them. The dollar vote has been cast already, though not by me, so at least there's no waste. Sigh.
  • I help coach a softball team and before practice I filled up some empty water bottles that were around the kitchen to give them a couple more uses before I recycle them.

Frugal Fails:
  • I hit a curb one night and ruined one of my expensive tires on the car. I was so upset since I'd just gotten the tires in June, but $93 later I no longer have a donut on my car.
  • Ordered takeout at work two days when I forgot lunch. I need to get on this meal prepping wagon.

thrifty thursday #18

  • I snagged two bags of expired angel hair noodles from work and brought them home since they were a bit past our discount time frame. I eat angel hair 6 to 7 days a week, so this'll save me a bit. Don't judge my pasta habits.
  • Last Wednesday and Thursday were both completely no spend days - I didn't leave the house, shop online, or anything.
  • A friend of mine hurt her ankle and passed on a lot of her heeled shoes, so I picked up a couple pair. She's decluttering, too, and sent me home with a bag of clothing and several books. ♥ Thanks!
  • On fight night I picked up a shift at a local restaurant I'd worked at before. Besides a guy walking out on a tab (that grudge will last a while), I made a decent little chunk of change to save for a rainy day.
  • I've been retaining Gold Status via Shell Fuel Rewards*, and it's been saving me (at least) five cents per gallon. After I pump my gas, the app sends me a notification with how much money I've saved. It might not seem like much, but I've saved almost ten dollars with just a few fillups.
  • My library books have been keeping me from buying new books. Though I did buy one at Strand in Manhattan, but that was different. It was out of print!
  • At home I've been trying really hard not to have any food waste. Dinner a couple nights ago was a hodge podge of salad, hummus wraps, baby corn, some vegetable samosas, and leftover marinara.
  • I finally found some cheap hammock straps. I wasn't going to spend a ton on ENO straps, so I shopped around and found some for $9.98. Then on a thrift store trip, we found a new-in-box king size mosquito net for less than $3 and picked it up for when we go camping.
  • Picked up a loaf of french bread for $0.56 since it was close to date. I've been making mini french bread pizzas.

Frugal Fail:
  • Ordered takeout from a great local New York style deli. I'm a sucker for pasta and potato salad. However, for $21 (including tip), I received enough food for at least five total meals (my meals, as I'm just a snacker for the most part), so each meal runs about $4.20.

  • I had an Etsy order for a destash item. One more thing out and a couple dollars in my pocket.
  • After reviewing some paranormal evidence, N and I stopped for a nice Italian dinner. It was a bit of a splurge (well not really), but we did get 10% off by checking into Yelp!
  • When we finished dinner, we walked next door to the grocery store. I picked up some frozen vegan lunches and some power grain waffles that were on deep closeout. At the register, the catalina printer spit out a coupon for a FREE pint of Halo Top ice cream. I won't eat it, so I'm going to give it to N.
  • Speaking of Yelp, our local (awesome) donut shop will give you a free donut if you check in on the app.
  • I brought home the leftover bruschetta from dinner and had it for lunch the next day.
  • I went to Aldi and picked up a bag of plums and a bag of nectarines for only $1.98 each.
  • Made a quarter via ibotta* with the above grocery store visit.
  • I recently joined the survey site InboxDollars*, and I'm slowly chugging away at the $30 redemption mark.
  • I'm on Chipotle's text messaging list (scroll to the bottom to sign up) and I got a message a bit ago. I completed the little activity and was rewarded with a buy one get one free coupon.
  • I worked at a restaurant years ago and after I left, the manager roped me into helping with their booth at a brewfest serving food. It was pretty enjoyable and fairly easy work. Well, every now and then she'll ask if I can help with an event. Most of the time I'm working my current job but I was able to score two evenings' work at their booth at the local fair, so I'm happy to help out and earn a little pocket money at the same time. (Plus I don't have to be there until 4pm so I still get to enjoy the majority of my days off!)
  • Finished up a couple Zevia's that have been in the fridge forever, made a big batch of red quinoa I got free from work because it's date ran out, and used up a couple wrinkly tomatoes and the rest of some gazpacho for a sauce.
  • I put a ton of books I've been wanting to read on hold or my to hold later list at the local town library. They have such a selection compared to my county's smaller library.
How about you?

thrifty thursday #16

  • I completed Level 1 of the July Teamwork Challenge on ibotta*, which granted me an extra dollar! Thanks, team! :)
  • During a thrifting trip, shoes were buy two get one free - I picked up a pair of clogs, a pair of 7 For All Mankind heels, and a pair of purple Vans* for freeeeee.
  • In other news, my mother is going vegetarian! I'm so proud of her. I picked up two 99cent each vegetarian/vegan cookbooks at Goodwill for her. ♥
  • My two days off last week were very frugal - no money spent other than what I forked out for two energy drinks (my weakness!) and the gas to run a couple local errands.
  • One of those local errands was to take off our recycling and I opted not to stop and get my puppers a four piece nugget to split. I normally do because they're spoiled, but I gave them some homemade treats instead. It may have only been a dollar, but I still saved it.
  • I used up the last of some slightly wilted lettuce and broccoli in a salad so it didn't go to waste. The rest of the broccoli will have to be cooked in something.
  • When I made tacos this week I ran out of tortillas but still had leftovers, so I just packed it all together for a taco bowl for lunch. For my filling (omni had beef), I used a crumbled up dollar store veggie burger, which at Dollar Tree are only $1 for two.
  • Somehow I received a free magazine subscription and had a few options to choose from. I went with Sports Illustrated.
  • When N and I came back from Tennessee, my mom sent us home with some leftovers from meals we'd eaten out there, so we had lunch for work Friday and snacks for the ride.
  • Found a quarter on the sidewalk!

Frugal Fails:
  • Someone left the freezer door open accidentally and we lost all of the food. I lost two packages of Quorn products, my other veggie burger, three Gardein pizza pockets, and the omni lost a pound of beef, a frozen pizza, and some fish sticks. Luckily it wasn't packed full!
  • I broke down and ordered takeout one day last week at work. It's not a complete fail, though, as I easily got two meals out of a lunch portion size of pasta.
How have you done this week?

  • I received a $5 book credit from Google, so I downloaded the Google Books* app and bought The Four Agreements* for only $0.15! While spending money isn't neccessarily frugal, we all know I can't stop adding to my TBR pile, so I might as well do it cheaply.
  • I have enough points to redeem another $10 cash out via Mintvine*!
  • A bit ago some friends and I went to see Dead & Company and since I drove us, N bought my ticket. It was so fun!
  • I've still yet to fork out anymore cash for beauty products, though I was very tempted to get some new lip balm. Luckily I convinced myself that the four tubes I have in my car is sufficient. My stash is holding on nicely.
  • I accepted an offer for an item on eBay so that's a few more dollars in my pocket and another item out of my hair.
  • In the spirit of not wasting food, my boss asked me if I wanted a 32oz jar of marinated mushrooms that the lid had popped on seconds before. It's now in my fridge waiting for soup and stirfry days.
  • I made a "dump soup" in the crockpot last week: some wilted kale, wrinkly roma tomatoes, a scoop or two of a premade lentil soup mix, and some random spices.
  • N and I never finish meals, so we've started splitting dishes when we go out. We got a Chipotle bowl for $4.92 each Saturday. Sometimes you just want sofritas with your best friend.
  • In one grocery visit, I made $9.00 on items via ibotta*, then earned a $2.00 Fourth of July bonus, bringing me up to $11.00 for one visit. I then cashed out $21.15 and received it instantly via PayPal!
  • During that same grocery visit above, I used my reusable cloth bags and didn't have to use a single plastic bag, nor did I put my lettuce and broccoli in a produce bag. Green win!
  • Using Food Lion's coupon center, I printed a coupon for salad dressing I was intending to get, along with a $4 off $65+ that came in handy. Utilize your rewards systems, people!
  • Last Wednesday was a total no-spend day!
  • I received a free month of Marvel Unlimited*. Soooo many comics. Hashtag Marvel Gal.
So on that no-spend note, there's another Thrifty Thursday! :)

  • Between Riffle and BookBub emails, I downloaded a bunch of free ebooks (like my TBR really needs to get bigger) to keep me occupied.
  • I'm back to packing my lunches again after ordering delivery a couple times. Oops.
  • I scored a big $5.00 bonus on ibotta by redeeming a couple extra offers that I'd be picking up anyway. Score!
  • Using BevRAGE (use code YSNPQFJQ)*, I was paid $.50 for buying a six pack.
  • My favorite secondhand bookstore was having a half off sale when I got to TN for vacation, so I picked up a couple titles to keep me occupied.
  • While on vacation, I was really frugal. While there, I spent very little money and only ate out once at a restaurant I'd been craving.
  • I filled up my Sip bottle* before I left for home so I wouldn't have to stop and buy bottled water.
  • Though I missed a day of work because I was sick, I also didn't spend any money while home in bed Monday.
  • It may seem weird, but I prefer to buy items in glass jars (jams, vegetables) so that I can reuse the jars as food containers. They're a pain to wash, but much better than plastic.
  • My mom gave N (my best friend) and I three big bags of clothing to do what we please with. I've listed a few pieces online and we split the other pieces. N scored a ton of long sleeve tops!
  • I successfully went to the thrift store and did not buy any books. Win! I'm trying to read through and get rid of some of the ones I have already.
  • While N and I did eat out Tuesday, we got super cheap 99cent tacos for Taco Tuesday.
  • My Amazon Prime membership ran out and I didn't renew it. I was only using it for the music anyway, as I rarely order anything online.
  • I bought a single person hammock* (I got mine at Walmart for $25, but this one is cheaper) and I've been price checking straps for it since I don't really want to pay $20 for them. I'll find them cheaper at some point.
There's another week! How have you saved or made money?

thrifty thursday #13

thrifty thursday frugal tips lucky bandit blog

  • I made a total of $4.55 via ibotta* (you get $10, I get $5!), Checkout 51*, and Mobisave (use code AKHJYJNZ)* from a singular grocery trip. All of the rebates were for things I would normally buy, with the exception of a jar of Frontera salsa which was marked for closeout at $1, which I then made a rebate of $0.80 on, so I paid less than a quarter for it!
  • When renewing the domain name for LB, I received 9% back from Ebates*!
  • N and I swapped some clothing, so I got a pair of Converse in exchange for some hiking socks and a long sleeve moisture wicking shirt I wasn't going to use - eco friendly and frugal! I can use what she won't, and she can use what I won't.
  • I switched over to the Verizon Unlimited Plan as of a month or two ago, so I've been burning up Rain Rain* and I've still yet to go over the threshold of the "22gb and we cut you off". I still pay more than some folks for my phone, but as much as I bitch about Verizon, they've been fairly good to me as a customer.
  • For lunches, I snagged two 90 cent closeout tv dinners at the store. They're not ideal and not even remotely healthy, but I figured they'd do in a pinch when I didn't have time to make something.

  • This one isn't mine, but my mom just jumped on the Aldi train and got all of this for $41! We're both big on bargain shopping, can you tell?
  • I umpire a few days every week at the local little league and sometimes get a free meal if the concession stand is open. I'd do it for free because I love baseball, but it's a nice treat. Plus, who passes up ballpark fries???
  • Speaking of umpiring, I needed a short sleeve moisture wicking shirt that covered my back (I was previously wearing tank tops) because the chest protector rubs my shoulder blade raw, so I stopped by Kohl's because I had a bit of a giftcard left from Christmas. I found a TekGear shirt that was perfect AND marked down to only $4, so I went to checkout. It actually rang up at TWO DOLLARS, so I saved 90% off and still had three dollars and some change left on my giftcard. Win!

  • I finally accumulated enough points for a free pizza via Domino's rewards. You only have to place an order with a qualifying pizza six times, but I never want to pay for the delivery so I only order rarely. I'll most likely use this when N and I want to split a pizza at work.
  • Via ibotta, I made another $1.50 at Target and Food Lion. The item at Target was 30% off via Cartwheel, so I paid little to nothing for it, and the quarter at FL was for an "any item" redemption.
  • I redeemed a $5 Amazon giftcard through The Panel App.
  • My stepdad was in town a little bit ago and I needed to deliver a package he ordered to him, so we had dinner at a local Mexican place. He paid (forever grateful!) and we had a great time! It's always nice to catch up with family that lives out of state.
  • I really wanted Noodles & Company for dinner Saturday night and I had a coupon for a FREE Pasta Fresca, so I got two regular size dinners and a side salad for $8 and some change.
  • While at an investigation, a friend didn't want 3/4 of the leftover pizza, so I offered to take it home so it wouldn't go to waste. It was my lunch the next day!

Another week, some more pennies made and saved. How about you?

  • I scored 8% back via Ebates* when I ordered my Sephora birthday gift!
  • Via ibotta*, I made $2.50 at Walmart (which I still loathe, but they were the only pharmacy around that carried my cough syrup *eye roll*) and $2.25 at Target. Then I made $1.00 via Checkout 51, and submitted many receipts to ReceiptHog for points.
  • Between ibotta, Checkout 51*, and Target's Cartwheel, I scored a KidFresh meal for only $0.11!

  • I took advantage of this artichoke hearts offer on ibotta. The rebate was for any size, any variety, so I picked up a smaller jar at Food Lion for $1.99. I had a $1.25 off coupon for future purchase I had received from a previous grocery run, so I used that and submitted the rebate for $0.75, making the little jar a moneymaker of a penny!
  • My beauty and personal care stash of products has been dwindling, but the money I'd normally spend on frivilous items has been nicely staying in my wallet.
  • Made a quarter on a tomato via Checkout 51 and a quarter on broccoli via Mobisave (use code AKHJYJNZ)*!
  • We took the boys to Maymont, packed a lunch and brought our own toys, so it only cost $1.50 to feed the goats and gas to get there and back. A frugal, fun trip!
  • I cooked the rest of a bag of black turtle beans I got on markdown. I stuck them in the crockpot with leftover no-chicken broth and threw in a ton of garlic. I've probably got five cups of black beans cooking up, so I'll definitely be adding those to a ton of dishes. They only cost me about $1.50 total!
  • N and I were thirsty while shopping for water shoes for the boys, so I used up some of the two Starbucks giftcards I got for Christmas, earned rewards stars, and kept the cash in our pockets!
  • Not Your Average Joe's sent me a $15 off coupon for my birthday, so when I went up to see Jess, we got dinner and split the bill - we ended up paying $9 each before tip! Considering my dish alone was $16, this was a great deal for the both of us and I'm more than happy to share my coupons!
  •  I'm still packing my lunches and it's saving me at least $15 per delivery meal.

thrifty thursday #11

thrifty thursday frugal tips lucky bandit blog

  • I started making my own lunches and packed it up in my reusable Thirty One lunchbox that my mom gave me for Christmas one year.
  • When I was out visiting my mom, we snagged fruit from the hotel's breakfast. The banana I had was about to go, so I peeled and chopped it and froze it for smoothies.
  • I've really been shopping the pantry at home lately and I've made up quite a few meals without spending a dime for extra ingredients. We have a bunch of older spices that I've been hitting pretty heavy to get rid of them, too.
  • For lunch at work, I finished the last two slices of a mushroom pizza instead of ordering fried rice even though I really wanted fried rice.
  • Yesterday I made $3.55 via rebate apps Checkout 51*, MobiSave* (*use code AKHJYJNZ), and Berrycart*.
  • My mom signed up for Mobisave, so I got a $1 from the referral!
  • I've got my other half saving his receipts, so I go through his grocery receipts for potential rebates and to scan them into Receipt Hog* for points for PayPal money.
  • While out at Target, Annie's mac and cheese was on sale for $.99 per box, originally $1.79, and I used two $1 off two manufacturer coupons, which brought them down to only $.49 per box!
  • In the same Target trip, I picked up this set* of adorable popsicle molds for only $4.48 on clearance. They'll be a nice treat for the little guy this summer.
  • With SavingStar, I cashed out $5.88 to my PayPal. They feature mainly name brands that I don't buy, but occasionally I'll get a bag of chips or take advantage of the fresh produce offers.
  • Sunday night I made a quick and thrifty pantry sauce to top the rest of my spaghetti squash - lots of minced garlic and spices, some wrinkly cherry tomatoes, the rest of a bag of meatless crumbles, and then I poured some gazpacho I received free with rebates over it. It cooked down nicely and I didn't have to open another jar of tomato sauce!

thrifty thursday #10

  • I like to reuse packing materials whenever possible for both the cost and recycling factor, so I pilfered a few smaller plain boxes and single sheets of bubble wrap from work and I added a few mailers I received from things in the mail to my packing supply pile.
  • I earned $4.00 at the grocery store last night via ibotta* and didn't even know I had the rebate unlocked. It pays (literally) to go through and unlock them! My grocery store sends the rebates automatically through my rewards card, so I just put my phone number in at the store and boom! No uploading receipts.
  • Fifteen cents was added to my PayPal via Mobisave (use code: AKHJYJNZ) for buying no-chicken broth*! It might not seem like much but fifteen cents is fifteen cents.
  • When I was out visiting my mom we stopped by the Eddie Bauer store where everything was 40% off, and though I didn't find anything, I saved her $10 with my Adventure Rewards certificate.
  • I'm sick again and I bought the Family Dollar brand cold medicine and saved quite a bundle. I checked the ingredients and the off brand actually had higher levels of the medications I needed.
  • At the store last night, I earned another $.75 via ibotta*!
  • Today I shopped the pantry and made goulash with meatless beef crumbles, jarred sauce, and some rice noodles that were in a mac and cheese box that had no cheese packet. Filling and delicious!
  • I've got a spaghetti squash roasting in the oven and I plan to meal prep this week and get a few lunches out of it. Yum!
Any tips? ♥

thrifty thursday #9

thrifty thursday frugal tips lucky bandit blog

  • Since I'm working on building my reselling business, I decided to invest in a nice rug as a backdrop. I managed to score this rug* at Kohl's. It was on sale for $59.99 and I used a $10 off $50 coupon, then a 15% off coupon, and put the total of $44.79 on a giftcard I got for Christmas!
  • I cashed out another $10.00 via Mintvine*! That was with pretty minimal effort, too.
  • My coworker and I stop by a local restaurant on most Mondays for burger night. We get $2 black bean burgers with the purchase of a drink and it's always a nice little treat, plus there's always enough left for lunch the next day.
  • Speaking of lunches, I finally stocked the work fridge with lunch supplies so I'm not tempted to order $10 minimum delivery. I do miss my breadstick bites, though.
  • I cashed out $24.65 with ibotta* today and was paid instantly via PayPal! I made $5.40 at my local grocery store just by using my rewards card - no receipt uploading required!
  • Via Checkout 51* I made $3.00 during that same local store visit. Yay, free money!
  • I signed up to ship some clothing to swap.com, and I'm hoping to get a couple bucks for them.
