ten things you didn't know about me

katelyn carter bee

I've been having a spot of writer's block lately, so I decided to switch things up a bit and do a simple post - so here are ten things you didn't know about me!

1. I'm an incredibly picky eater.
Yeah. I'm one of those people. I don't remember when I developed this finickiness, because I wasn't always so picky about food. And it's not just about what I eat, it's how I eat as well. I don't eat foods together - even with a salad I eat each component separately, even though they're mixed on the same plate. I have to have proportions with my food - there has to be a good ratio of each different food on the plate. I know, it's terrible.

2. I reread the Harry Potter books when I'm upset.
I'm an avid reader. While I can normally be found reading Stephen King because there's so much work of his I haven't read (though I've made a significant dent over the years), I fall back on Harry Potter when I'm having a stressful week, an anxiety attack, or I just feel down. It's relaxing - I always associate the Harry Potter series with home, maybe? I grew up with the series and followed it to the end, and it was a big part of my life. It may sound silly, but hey, whatever works for you, right?

3. I watch television for one reason - pure entertainment.
I don't watch educational television (unless you count BBC's Top Gear - I have learned a lot about cars I could never afford on there). I love sitcoms. The King of Queens is my absolute favorite, followed by Seinfeld and Roseanne. That would be my ultimate television channel - those three shows, with a little Bob's Burgers thrown in. I don't watch a lot of tv - but when I do, it's alllllll junk.

4. I used to be against vegetarianism and I thought veganism was ludicrous.
I grew up in a standard southern home - meat was a staple in every meal. I was of the mindset that "they're already dead - why not eat meat?" and never stopped to actually think about what was happening. It wasn't until high school that I realized what humans were doing to animals. My senior research presentation was on vegetarianism - and I've been advocating ever since. Obviously I've changed my tune, and I hope to help others realize the benefits (both health and environmental) of veganism! :)

5. I really dislike warm weather.
I adore winter. I love cold weather. I was quite the opposite a few years ago - I hated the cold. Since then, however, I've learned to embrace it and I've developed a rather large hate for anything warmer than 60 degrees. Last winter we had quite a bit of snow and I relished every second. I'd love to move somewhere that's chilly year round.

6. My dog is a huge part of my life.
I haven't yet formally introduced our dogs on the blog yet because I want to nab some better pictures of them first, but my dog, Jeffery, is a HUGE part of my life. Don't get me wrong, Kaine is just as big a part, but saving Jeffery from a life on the streets (and him being attached to my hip ever since) makes us a little more bonded. He's my little chalupa and I can't imagine going through life without him.

7. I've had shingles.
I had shingles in December of 2013. Yes, it is every bit as bad as the commercials make it out to be. No, you don't have to be "old" to get them. I had them on my left shoulder and they came down around my left armpit, right where the band of my bra sits. It was a great Christmas.

8. Bob Seger is my favorite musical artist.
I love classic rock, and got into Bob Seger's music when I was still living at home and nabbed one of my dad's albums. It went from there, and now I can pick out his lyrics in television shows, identify his songs from the first few beats on the radio, and my best friend, Megan, and I saw him in concert in April 2013. It was one of the best nights of my life.

9. I can't smell.
Yeah. My nose doesn't work. I can still taste, though, as bizarre as that is.

10. I work as a server - and love it.
I work part time as a server at a local Italian restaurant and I absolutely love it. It keeps me busy and a whole shift can go by in a snap. Plus - instant cash! Of course I'm looking for a career, but I'm actually very happy for the time being.

And there you have it! Ten things you may not have known about me - but now you do!

  1. I love love that you watch tv for pure entertainment! I hate when I tell people that I love a show and they roll their eyes because it's "silly' or whatnot! I love tv to take my mind off everything and to have fun!

  2. Thank you! The same things irks me, too! I'm glad we're on the same page!

  3. Yess I also LOVE bad tv! I watch tv to relax, so that means I watch a lot of terrible tv. Roseanne, Everybody Loves Raymond, Golden Girls, and I Love Lucy are my favorite sitcoms. I also love the stuff on TLC like Breaking Amish and Sister Wives. Oh and Teen Mom is my guilty pleasure. I don't watch what I call "real" tv shows like Walking Dead and i have never seen an episode of Game of Thrones.

  4. I'm a picky eater too. I can easily eat a salad, but the salad can't be on the same plate as warm food. And the veggies can't touch the starch or the meat. Gravy sends me over. :)
